Decsription Activities Other Books in This Series
This unit explores the 1940s. Nine of the lessons are directly related to the study of World War II, but only one deals with the armed forces overseas. The other eight are designed to study problems on the home front during the war. Topics such as rationing, internment, the workforce, and wartime politics are covered. One lesson not directly related to World War II examines the writings of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. Through these lessons, students will gain a feel for life in the 1940s that cannot be gained from a general textbook.
Academic activities include evaluation of war propaganda, small- and large-group discussion, development of criteria to evaluate military persons, predicting, analyzing relocation camps, letter-writing, and editorial writing.
