This classical Greek tragedy explores the consequences of abuse and neglect. Medea finds solace in her plan for revenge on the husband who cast her and their children aside. The drama presents the suffering of humanity at its worst but offers a vision of strength, courage, and endurance.

In this unit, students use conflict, tragedy, the concept of hero/heroine, and irony to interpret the drama. They examine characterization through Jason and Medea. Students examine the role of women in drama. Several activities improve reading comprehension.
