Literary Form: British Drama
Set in fourteenth-century Verona, Romeo and Juliet is the classic story of young love. Lessons discuss family feuds, the importance of minor characters, language as an indicator of character, imagery, theme, tone, and characterization, compression of time, and the role of fate.
Students write newspaper accounts of events, chart references to time, write stage directions, and conduct role-plays. They also study Shakespearean theater, analyze plot and character, and examine literary techniques.
