Book 3 is designed to help students review themes, people, and events between 1450 and the present. Part 1, The Humanities, examines the cultural forces that have shaped European history. Lessons include The Arts: Mirror of History, Architecture: The Enduring Legacy, and The Power of the Printed Word. Part 2, Examining Historical Eras, reviews the major historical eras in European history from the Renaissance to the present. Lessons include A Look Back: The Renaissance through Napoleon, The Age of European Domination: 1870–1914, and The Emergence of a Global Age: 1945 to the Present. Part 3, Politics and Economics, traces the major political, social, intellectual, and economic forces that shaped modern Europe. Lessons include The Increasing Demand for Political and Economic Change: 1770–1919, Adam Smith to Karl Marx: In Search of an Economic View of the World, and Activism—The Role of Women: 1789 to the Present. Part 4, The Reviews, provides a series of review lessons that can be used just prior to the administration of the Advanced Placement examination. Lessons include Historical Events: Roots and Impact, An Examination of the Impact of Modern European Conflicts, and Transformation of Western Civilization: 1450–1715.

The Student Edition contains all the student handouts provided in the Teacher Resource Unit, plus sectional overviews that outline the content to be studied.

Intended as a stand-alone review vehicle, this unit provides immediate preparation for the advanced placement examination. Some lessons focus on specific topics and time frames; others focus on the skills of analysis and interpretation of primary and secondary documents. Many lessons include exercises that stress writing and critical thinking. Lessons feature activities to be completed by students individually or in groups.
