This unit approaches environmental issues from a social studies perspective. Environmental concepts are integrated with social, historical, ethical, and cultural concepts. Lessons cover energy conservation, environmental catastrophes, landfills, environmental solutions, the environmental movement and its contributors, and environmental careers. In addition to a bibliography of print and online resources, this unit features an objective and short answer test.
Students employ higher level thinking skills as they engage in a range of learning activities: reading, writing, questioning, charting and graphing, mapping, discussing in small or large groups, brainstorming, problem solving, making presentations, drawing conclusions and supporting them, taking tests, conducting surveys, researching. The learning activities accommodate audio, visual, abstract, and kinesthetic learners.
