Recommended for Grade 12
This book emphasizes connections between life issues and spiritual foundations. It examines personal identity and explores adult Catholic lifestyle commitments including vowed religious life, ordained ministry, and marriage and family life. The unit includes a focus on lay ministry, single life, and spiritual gifts in response to the changing society in which young adults often delay long-term choices. Considerable emphasis has been placed on the use of Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church as sources for information and inspiration for a deepened relationship with God.
Lesson titles include the following: Growing into Adult Life, Developing Relational Skills, Calling and Commitments, Single Life—The Vocation, Religious Life and Ordained Ministry, and The Vocation of Marriage.
This minicourse edition offers students opportunities to read scriptural passages and therefore see the Bible as an important tool in the development of a rich and mature faith life. The unit includes readings, discussion guides, and reflection sheets. Students list some of the opportunities and challenges of single life; consider what being a priest in the Church today means; rate items as a means of identifying expectations for themselves, a partner, and the marriage relationship; and write a description of an ideal, modern holy family.
