Recommended for Grade 9
Ninth grade teachers and catechists cannot safely assume that students share a common vocabulary and a common understanding of Catholic basics. This minicourse enables students with varied religious formation backgrounds to experience a unifying study of the Catholic heritage. This resource is not a catechism, and it is not a comprehensive treatment of the Catholic faith. It leads students to a shared vocabulary and shared understanding of basic beliefs. The book presents topics that warrant and will receive fuller treatment as students continue their religious education, particularly by using the Discipleship Series.
Lesson titles include the following: The Mystery of the Catholic Church, The Catholic Vision of Life, Holiness in the World: Sacraments, Scripture in a Catholic Context, Morality and Human Living, and Catholic Church Teaching.
This minicourse edition offers students opportunities to read scriptural passages, respond to discussion guides, reflect on their own experiences, and interact in both small and large groups. In addition, students examine parables, consider the statements of the Nicene Creed, write prayers, and study the structure of the Mass.
