Recommended for Grades 11-12

This forty-lesson book about conscience enables students to recognize that Christian morality is not a matter of rules and regulations, but rather a response to the invitation of a loving God who invites us into relationship and to share in the life of the kingdom. The unit invites students into the familiarity with Scripture that is essential for understanding God’s will and the nature of good and evil. Moreover, the book reinforces religious literacy by incorporating the teaching of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the 2,000-year-old Catholic moral tradition. In addition, as the subtitle conveys, this resource manual helps students develop the skills of moral decision making.

The text consists of eight parts: Morality--The Call to Be Fully Human; Morality and the Call to the Kingdom; The Nature of Conscience; Influences of Conscience; Forming a Christian Conscience; Sin and Evil; A Positive Approach; and Conscience in Action. This resource is to be used in conjunction with the Student Exercise Book by the same title.

Teachers guide student discussions, conduct brainstorming sessions, review important terms, summarize background material, and encourage students to reflect on experience.
