This factual, nonjudgmental unit presents teenage drinking and its consequences. Lessons present the historical and economic aspects of alcohol, compare drinking patterns around the world, examine the influence of lobbyists for the alcoholic beverage industry, and investigate trends in alcohol advertisements. Students study and discuss underage drinking, portrayals of alcohol on television and in literature, and the consequences of alcohol misuse. In addition to a bibliography of print and online resources, this unit features an objective and short answer test.
Students read and respond to information from a range of sources. They also engage in brainstorming, research, problem solving, creative writing, role-playing, small-group activities, essay writing, preparing and presenting oral reports, and conducting surveys.
