Recommended for Grades 9-10
This forty-lesson unit is an introduction to the study of the Old Testament and enables students to understand key moments in salvation history. The book provides basic skills necessary for a well-grounded Catholic interpretation of biblical material. Students work with the actual biblical texts rather than simply read about passages under consideration. The lessons help students to see the connections between the truths of the Hebrew Scriptures and their own lives. Students come away with a lifelong appreciation of the Hebrew Scriptures as the living Word of God. Furthermore, this study of the Old Testament provides background for understanding the New Testament more fully.
The text consists of six parts: Beginning to Study the Hebrew Scriptures; In the Beginning; Journey towards the Promised Land; National Growth; The Prophets; and The Writings. This resource includes many references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church and is to be used in conjunction with the Student Exercise Book by the same title.
