Recommended for Grades 11-12

This Student Exercise Book complements the Teacher Manual with the same title, providing an introduction to Catholic teaching on social justice.  The resource enables high school students to connect daily living with Catholic moral principles and values grounded in respect for human life.  It also offers strategies for putting moral principles into action and encourages students to unite themselves with the Church’s social mission and to work to bring about a more just and peaceful world through Jesus Christ.

The text consists of seven parts: The Social Dimension of Morality, The Right to Life, The Dignity of the Human Person, Attacks on Human Dignity, Called to Be Peacemakers, Called to Be Leaven, and Called to Be Community.

Exercise books can serve as records of individual faith journeys.  Activities stimulate class involvement, explore real-life experience, promote biblical and doctrinal literacy, foster creative thinking, teach community commitment, invite spiritual growth and prayer, and present service as essential to discipleship.  This resource is to be used in conjunction with the Teacher Manual by the same title.

Students participate in class discussions and reflect on experiences.  In addition, they compose ten commandments for responsible stewardship, create posters and slogans to raise consciousness about homelessness, and participate in a justice prayer service.  Students study excerpts from church documents to understand the directives of popes, bishops, and councils.
