This Student Exercise Book complements the Teacher Manual with the same title.  It reviews each of the seven sacraments with attention to both historical context and current liturgical practices.  Students come to realize that all human life is sacramental and that we encounter God through symbol, ritual, grace, and human interaction.  Both formal and informal ministries associated with the sacraments are discussed to invite students to consider ways they can be of service to the Christian community. Through various opportunities for prayer, guided meditation, and learning activities within the classroom environment, students realize that the sacraments are not just a subject to be studied but an experience to be lived within our faith system.

The text consists of eight parts: Encountering God through the Sacraments; Baptism, Initiation into Christian Community; Confirmation, the Initiation of the Spirit; Eucharist, Initiation of the Body of Christ; Penance, Healing the Spirit; Anointing of the Sick, Healing Ourselves and Others; Matrimony and Holy Orders, Vocation and Commitment; and Living the Sacraments.
Exercise books can serve as records of individual faith journeys.  Activities stimulate class involvement, explore real-life experience, promote biblical and doctrinal literacy, foster creative thinking, teach community commitment, invite spiritual growth and prayer, and present service as essential to discipleship.  This resource is to be used in conjunction with the Teacher Manual by the same title.

Students participate in class discussions and reflect on experiences.  They identify ways that people minister in various roles, and they write an essay in which they describe a personal healing experience.
