This book offers a Catholic theology of the religions as articulated by the Second Vatican Council’s Declaration on the Relationship of the Church to Non-Christian Religions. It includes an overview of the basic beliefs, rituals, and moral codes of the major religions of the world, along with points of convergence and difference with Catholic belief and practice. The simple goal is to foster respect and dialogue through understanding what other people believe and do, as well as the reasons for our differences.
Lively discussion questions are featured. Examples are as follows: Why would you expect that Catholicism and the world religions would have tangents or points of convergence? Why does the quest for spiritual wholeness in religions seem to require the renunciation of material possessions? Do you believe that everything happens for a purpose; that everything that happens is God’s will?
