Advanced Placement U.S History, Book 2, is a college-level unit for high school students. Part 1 studies the period from the beginning of World War I to the end of World War II. Lessons address topics such as women’s suffrage, effects of Prohibition, foreign policy, the Great Depression, the New Deal, Pearl Harbor, Japanese-American internment, and World War II conferences. Part 2 analyzes how major developments stemmed from World War II experiences.
Lessons explore the Cold War, foreign policy, the Civil Rights Movement, women’s liberation, early postwar economic prosperity, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. Part 3 provides a lengthy review to insure mastery of the material. Review exercises cover the main themes of American history and approach similar topics from different directions to assist students in grasping both the depth and sweep of history. Lessons are not designed to accompany a specific textbook. They are flexible to meet the needs of a variety of teaching goals, but mainly aim to prepare students for the Advanced Placement examination.
