People have their own special and personal way of communicating with those whom they love. Communicating with God is a similar experience. When people pray, they use words, gestures, and silent moments to express to God something of themselves and to listen to God’s message for them. Prayer is the conversation that takes place on the journey of faith. This book is all about prayer and praying. In the six sessions, participants consider many forms of prayer and experience many opportunities to pray. They can grow in their understanding of the nature of prayer and of the challenges that prayer opens before them. Sessions emphasize the integration of these understandings and challenges with daily experiences.
Session titles are as follows: The Christian Journey; Prayer of the Heart; Prayer of the Community; God’s Word--Spoken in Time, Speaking Today; Jesus--Model for Our Prayer; and Mary--Model for Christians.
Each session begins with a suggested method for lectionary prayer and ends with a closing prayer that may include reading and reflecting on scriptural passages, offering spontaneous general intercessions, participating in a brief prayer service, or reciting the Lord’s Prayer. Sessions include presentations of pertinent information, periods of personal reflection, and discussions for both large and small groups.
