These thirty-nine engaging prayer services, designed especially for those who pray with children and families, focus on Ordinary Time and are based on the weekday readings from the Lectionary for Masses with Children. 

The services include the use of specific symbols such as candles, salt, and water. Suggestions for children’s stories and music selections deepen the themes of the scriptural readings. Ritual actions such as the sign of the cross and a laying on of hands are typically incorporated into services. Children are led to reflect on these various elements. Although each prayer service is complete in itself, every element does not have to be used to make the prayer experience complete.

Participants have many opportunities to read (or hear) scriptural passages and may be given opportunities to think, draw, or write about specific topics for reflection. Participants recite prayers such as the Our Father and respond to prayer intercessions and litanies of praise, thanksgiving, and joy.
