This book is intended for adult Christians seeking both a deeper spiritual life and an opportunity to reflect with other believers on the meaning of Scripture and the truth of our identity.
Sessions explore the mystery of identity through scriptural events and characters. Readers of this book discover the narratives of Scripture to be their own stories and identify “the fall” as a movement away from God towards a false self. Through Scriptures, readers understand the obstacles that keep them from remaining in harmony with God.
Scripture and the Truth of Our Identity consists of six sessions; each session is designed to fit a one-and-a-half to two-hour time frame. A suggested time schedule appears in the front of the book. Session titles are as follows: Integration and Fragmentation; Jesus--The Struggling Hero; John the Baptist and Mary--Models of the True Self; Healing of Self in the Gospels; The Holy Spirit and Our Identity; and Celebrating the Truth of Our Being.
Prayer begins and concludes each of the six sessions. The sessions also include periods of reflective input, conversation time to respond to questions that shed light on the adult faith journey, silent reflection and journaling, and an invitation to action which encourages the conversion that true growth in faith requires. Time for socialization is also built in to the sessions.
