This biographical resource gives children Christian role models that they can emulate. This volume presents eighteen people from varied backgrounds, saints who give today’s youth a relevant, inspiring, enduring message of faith and love.
This resource is divided into two sections. One explores the lives of people from past ages whose actions are still relevant to today’s young people; the other examines saintly people who lived during the twentieth century. Lessons are self-contained and center on a specific value. The easy-to-use lesson plans include objectives, notes to the teacher, step-by-step procedures, a reproducible biography of each saint, and additional reproducible activity sheets that illustrate how values are shown in the saints’ lives and how those values relate to students’ lives.
The saints in this volume include St. Anthony of Padua, St. Helen, St. Isaac Jogues, St. Joan of Arc, St. John Neumann, St. Margaret of Scotland, St. Maria Goretti, St. Martin de Porres, Juan Diego, St. Paul, St. Rose of Lima, St. Valentine, Sister Thea Bowman, Cesar Chavez, Blessed Damien de Vuester, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Miguel Pro, and Edith Stein.
Students read brief but lively biographies about saints. In addition, they complete many delightful activities such as constructing a broom that represents the humility and charity of St. Martin de Porres, writing a letter in the style of epistle writer St. Paul, and examining biblical themes in religious songs similar to the spirituals that Sister Thea Bowman sang to teach Scripture. Appendix handouts provide opportunities for research, group work, book reports, and interviews.
