Decsription Activities Other Books in This Series

This program is geared toward primary-age children who have experienced the divorce and remarriage of one or both parents. Children discuss and work through topics such as jealousy, living in two homes, their feelings about their mom’s or dad’s remarriage, and finding the positive side of stepfamilies. The program recognizes and builds upon the strength and resiliency of youth and can be conducted in schools or adapted for less formal settings.

This unit is useful to teachers and parents facilitating support groups. The Leader’s Manual includes preliminary notes, detailed procedures, material lists, introductory activities, and resource materials. Each session is designed for forty-five minutes to an hour.

Children work in small groups in which they can comfortably express their thoughts and feelings. They discuss the concept of stepfamily. The program leader guides the children through their own personal loss journey and helps to lessen their fears. Students also discuss ways that school and grandparents can be sources of help.
