Jesus identified himself with the most vulnerable people in society. His presence to them is echoed in the themes of Catholic social teaching. These themes come alive through Scripture and are the basis of this unit’s eight formation sessions that foster a spirituality of social justice. This resource supports the spiritual life and ministry of men and women active in the care of the poor and disadvantaged in contemporary society.
Titles for the scripturally-based sessions are as follows: Begotten by God—The Dignity of All Persons; For Theirs Is the Kingdom--Discipleship; Gather the Fragments—The Common Good; Has No One Condemned You? Forgiveness; Let Me See—Healing; He Will See to It That Justice Is Done—Participation; and All Creation Is Groaning—Hope.
Sessions begin with prayer or song and end with a prayer service. They also include the following activities: proclamation of Scripture, reflections on scriptural passages, opportunities for personal reflection and journaling, and participation in small group discussions. Time for socialization is also built in to the sessions.
