The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien

The Things They Carried is a fictionalized account of soldiers’ experiences in the Vietnam conflict. It promises to tell a war story and ten draws the reader into the experiences of the characters with which he peoples his novel. The novel deals with feelings of alienation and guilt, examines the responsibilities of decision-making, and demonstrates the value of being able to reflect on past experiences objectively.
