The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

The Yearling is a poignant tale of a young boy, Jody, and his longing for a pet. This story about a boy and a deer he finds in the wilderness is set in the author’s beloved Florida scrub country. Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for literature a year after the novel’s publication in 1938. Adults had a book reminiscent of childhood and one that they could read to their children; children had a story they could enjoy for its action, humor, and adventure.
