Description:

In a society in which Luke is an illegal third child, capture by the Population Police would mean death. On his first journey outside of his home, with the identity of a boy who has passed away, Luke attends the Hendricks School for Boys. Terrified by the constant contact with so many new people, the likelihood of being identified as an illegal third, and the onslaught of his hazing by classmates, Luke wonders about the absence of windows in the school. Then, he discovers an exit and is faced with the chance to venture even further into the world.

Activities:

Students examine symbolism, figurative language, plot, and theme; explore character profiles and methods of characterization such as using sensory details; and analyze thematic quotations. They also compare Among the Impostors with its prequel, Among the Hidden, and keep a journal.
