Description:
This contemporary work captures the flavor of life in a tiny Southern town at the opening of the twentieth century. Much of the story springs from the tales the author’s father told of his childhood in Commerce, Georgia. Will Tweedy tells the story from a vantage point of eight years after the events. At the age of twenty-two he more fully understands all he learned in 1906. In that year, he wrestled with questions and dilemmas that many young people face—the death of a friend, the death of a close relative, how to deal with a new step-grandparent, suicide of a family member, friendships, career plans, and religion. Readers grow with Will Tweedy in understanding at the same time as they delight in his escapades and the graphic portrayal of Cold Sassy and its residents.
