The Christmas Box/A Christmas Carol by Richard Paul Evans/Charles Dickens

The Christmas Box was written by Richard Paul Evans to show his children how much he loved them, this novel critiques the modern American attitude towards materialism, workaholism, and neglect of loved ones. Characters endure difficult times and come through unscathed; a family unit whose beloved child and husband have both died is taken in.

A Christmas Carol, a social criticism of Victorian England, describes avarice, child abuse, ignorance, and poverty. Love is proposed as the answer to social injustice. Based upon many of Charles Dickens’s personal experiences, this novel is meant to jar the consciences of his fellow Englishmen in order to improve the plight of the poor.
