Research 1: Information Literacy emphasizes the importance of information literacy in the Information Age. The unit develops essential research and organization skills. It promotes self-direction as a core skill for a lifelong learner. Lessons focus on information sources ranging from standard reference books to computer technology. Students learn to process information effectively, and diverse research projects provide experience in finding, thinking about, and communicating facts, analyses, and evaluations. Lessons include the interpretation of charts and graphs, addressing disparate information, researching conclusions, and citing sources. Paraphrasing and note taking receive particular emphasis.
