Description:

Set in modern California, The Gypsy Game describes a group of young people who discover gypsy life. One member of the group faces a personal crisis. Toby, whose mother has just died a few years earlier, hears that there is a plan for him to be removed from his father’s care and be placed into the care of his maternal grandparents. He overhears his father being threatened with legal action concerning events surrounding his mother’s death. Toby disappears and then returns to help his father and fight any attempt to force him to live with his maternal grandparents.

Students study basic information about Roma (Gypsy) life, analyze the current status of Roma people, and evaluate the historical accuracy of the novel.
