Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

Lonesome Dove is an epic novel of the American Old West that captures realistically the cowboys, the villains, the women, and the dangers in that setting. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1986, the novel takes the reader on a ride to remember, a cattle drive from the sleepy southwestern town of Lonesome Dove, Texas, to the last wilderness in Montana. Most critics agree that Lonesome Dove has become the definitive novel of the American West.

All of the lessons reinforce critical thinking skills, and most provide a critical thinking question typical of the Advanced Placement assessments.

Supplementary materials include tests with answer keys for all of the reading assignments as well as writing assignments connected to the lessons.
