A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry

In A Raisin in the Sun, set in an apartment on Chicago’s south side after World War II, a family faces racial discrimination while it struggles to decide how to spend the insurance check from the father’s death. The adult children, Walter Lee and Beneatha, desperately search for hope in the face of bitter opposition to fulfill their dreams of becoming a business owner and doctor respectively. Mama’s dream, however, is to own a home, a dream that is complicated when she makes a down payment for a home in an all-white neighborhood. The drama stresses the need for brotherhood among members in the human family and the importance of tolerance, sensitivity, and acceptance for all human beings.
