A MUSICAL JOURNEY IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF LEWIS AND CLARK

Music and Lewis and Clark are not words that generally go in the same sentence, but their journals show that music was an integral part of their famous journey. It brought welcome entertainment to the men, far from home, and also served as a diplomatic bridge to the American Indians they met on their way. Although Lewis and Clark themselves did not play, they had two fiddlers (Pierre Cruzatte and George Gibson) among the 30 or so men who went with them. Other members of the expedition sang and danced. This musical journey includes songs and tunes to mark each major step of the the journer, from President Jefferson’s idea for the journey to its conclusion.
