First help students appreciate good literature, then build skills to deepen their appreciation, are the guiding principles behind the fully developed lesson plans in these reproducible curriculum units. Different types of lessons address the following goals: understanding a book chapter by chapter, expanding vocabulary, developing particular analytic skills and strategies, identifying and discussing themes, and practicing genre writing.
