This intensive, portfolio-based civic education program for middle school promotes student participation in local and state government via monitoring and responsibly influencing public policy.
The student workbook introduces the concepts and purpose of the curriculum and of public policy, before laying out the six-step process: identifying problems, selecting one to study, gathering information, developing a portfolio, presenting it in a simulated public hearing, and reflecting on the experience. The workbook also helps students through the process by providing instructions and forms for gauging knowledge, documenting research, and creating their portfolio components.
