THE SOURCEBOOKS SHAKESPEARE
These remarkable editions are centered on the full text of the play with explanatory notes and illustrations on facing pages. The book also includes commentary by directors and performers. The accompanying audio CD allows listeners to hear excerpts of multiple productions (over 60 minutes of audio on each CD). Two plays are available now (others will be available later in 2006):
- OTHELLO. Hear the greats from Edwin Booth to Paul Robeson and James Earl Jones, and see photos from contemporary adaptations for film and stage (including Patrick Stewart’s 1997 photonegative version). 394 pages.
- ROMEO AND JULIET. We hear a 1911 recording of Ellen Terry and a 1997 recording of Kate Beckinsale, both as Juliet. We also sample performances by Kenneth Branagh, John Gielgud, and Judi Dench. 360 pages.
