ADVANCED FICTION AND NONFICTION

Part 1 (Fiction) contrasts different authors’ uses of literary devices, styles, and historical contexts. From themes of alienation to symbols of redemption and temptation, the program explores common strands throughout literature and across cultures. Part 2 (Nonfiction) identifies primary and secondary informational sources, from letters and journals to encyclopedias and Internet articles. Teaches strategies for summarizing and paraphrasing, avoiding the pitfalls of plagiarism, and distinguishing valid and reliable texts. 120 minutes.
