Diagrams, live action, and clear narration work together to explain the energy systems that run human muscles. First, diagrams show muscle fiber structures (including slow- and fast-twitch fibers) and how they work, and then the program discusses the body’s three energy systems and their interplay: the anaerobic systems based on ATP-PC and lactic acid as well as the aerobic glycolysis system based on oxygenated blood. Local and central fatigue and recovery are also discussed, and "warm-down" activity is recommended. Grades 7–12. Color. 30 minutes. VEA (Video Education America). ©2006.
