Three unique programs cover the range of Poe’s visionary talent through his short stories and poetry.
- The Tell-Tale Heart allows the narrator/murderer to speak directly to the viewer, effectively pulling in the audience as a character in this faithful production. 23 minutes.
- A Journey in Verse features five actors giving snippets of background and biography of Poe then bursting into excerpts from ten of Poe’s poems—including "Eldorado," "Annabel Lee," " The City in the Sea," and "The Raven." They emphasize Poe’s belief that poetry is music, and should be both beautiful and logical. 33 minutes.
- Finally, audio presentations of "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Cask of Amontillado," "The Fall of the House of Usher," and "The Gold Bug" use a multicast radio theater format to envelop listeners in chills. 116 minutes.
The DVD includes a biography of Poe, a scrapbook, and the text to the short story and the poems. Grades 4 and up. Color. Total running time: 172 minutes. Monterey. ©1998–2000.Poe
