BEGINNING INQUIRY

Each lesson meets both C3 and CCSS standards and contains a lower-lexile short text designed to engross students not only in famous events in U.S. history but also some of the more fascinating, lesser-known stories, such as citizen spies during the American Revolution, pirates attacking slave ships and then allowing the freed Africans to join their crew, the U.S. Camel Corps, and the World War I "death ship" Leviathan. Lessons also include a higher-lexile background information section, a lexile level for each short text and background page, focus points, teaching notes, discussion questions, extension activities, and references.
