BRAIN SCANS
Alcohol and the Teenage Brain
DVD
This program takes teenagers on a tour of several labs across the country where doctors are researching the effects of alcohol abuse on the teenage brain. The host of the show has a scan done on her own brain, then sees how her scan compares with those of the brains of teens who drink alcohol regularly. The studies highlighted in the video dramatically connect long-term brain damage to teenage drinking. Viewers learn why alcohol seems to affect younger brains more profoundly than older ones in impairing memory, coordination, and motivation—and also in causing addiction. The disc includes a teacher’s guide with reproducible handouts. Grades 7–12. Color. 23 minutes. Human Relations Media. ©2002.drugabuseitems
