COLLEGE, INC
DVD
Schools such as University of Phoenix and Everest College find loans for students, offer classes on campus and online, and award degrees, but what are the costs? Correspondent Martin Smith takes a close look at how for-profit schools aim to meet market demands in education. The quality of education, marketing strategies, recruitment and enrollment practices, and student debt are examined, while students, alumni, and former employees and executives share their experiences with for-profits. Throughout the program, Smith follows an "educational entrepreneur" who explains how and why he invests in changing failing universities into for-profit colleges and universities. Grades 9–12. Closed captioned. Color. 60 minutes. PBS. ©2010.
