The exploration half of the map shows explorers’ routes and lands settled by the English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch. The other half of the map shows lands claimed by the same five European powers, plus the main economic activity in each area (mining, plantation farming, fur trapping, and fishing). The map also includes a bar chart showing the amount of newcomers to the Americas in 1640 (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, African, and Dutch).
