FITNESS
DownloadStudent teams race through a map of the circulatory system while studying its components and functions, and use information gleaned from activities and their own daily workout program to better the fitness level of a fictional group member. Having their own fitness level tested and then monitored throughout, students learn the ins and outs of nutrition, the dangers of smoking, and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. An optional culminating "fitness fair" has students man classroom booths each highlighting an aspect of good fitness. The teacher’s guide includes complete procedures, handout masters, assessments, background essays, and workout regimens; the eight-page student guide has simulation rules and a personal fitness log and journal for charting their progress. The entire unit runs for 14 class periods, though certain activities may stand alone. Grades 4–9. 8½" x 11". Interact. 184 pages. 2009 revised edition.
