A powerful indictment of factory-style food manufacturing, this documentary builds on Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation to follow the food chain backward from supermarket to farm. Main targets of harsh criticism are beef, hog, and chicken mass production, government-subsidized corn crops, and Monsanto’s monopoly on genetically modified soybean seeds. Unhealthy mass production techniques are contrasted with healthier traditional farming, and the mass production of organic produce is called into question.
