FUNDAMENTAL STEPS
DownloadMake learning fundamentals fun with this introduction to the Steps writing process. Students meet Bing, Bang and Bongo, who are represented by a different musical instrument, shape and, for the younger writers, a color. Working cooperatively in pairs and individually, students write five-paragraph narrative, explanatory, persuasive and report-of-information essays demonstrating clear organization, proper grammar and usage and their own creative expression. As they learn to distinguish between concrete and abstract thinking and between general statements and details, they use their five senses to develop supporting details. Proofreading, editing and peer feedback are introduced and a Parent Connection section offers suggestions on how to educate and involve parents in their children’s writing.
