JAPAN’S KILLER QUAKE
Geologists try to understand the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that devastated large swaths of Japan. First-rate computer-generated visualizations help viewers understand what caused the quake and tsunami, while plentiful footage from affected areas translates theory into its real-world ramifications. Final minutes of the program draw parallels between Japan’s coast and the northwest coast of the U.S., where a similar quake and tsunami could occur at any time. Grades 6 and up. English with English subtitles. Color. 60 minutes. WGBH. ©2011.
