KING LEXICON

Dictionaries become the weapon of choice as student knights battle over King Lexicon’s crossword puzzle that forms a map of his kingdom. Student-team members complete Endeavors and Challenges that involve alphabetizing, proofreading, pronouncing, determining multiple meanings, recognizing inflected forms of words, and studying word origins; correct answers to these and daily team Quests move teams around the map and yield clues to the puzzle. Student guides include instructions, the king’s puzzle, and a diagram of dictionary entries, while the teacher’s guide contains complete procedures, assessments, answer keys, handout masters, and extension activities. The simulation runs for 15 class periods as written, but can be greatly truncated due to time or students’ abilities. Grades 4–8. Interact. Second Edition. ©2003.
