In this two-part program, a team consisting of art historians, engineers, constructors, and pilots attempts to build full-scale models of two of Leonardo da Vinci's most ambitious designs.
The proposed inventions: a giant crossbow with arms nearly 70 feet across, that would have been used to launch cannonballs with deadly accuracy, and a glider that predates the earliest theories on aeronautics by 500 years. Despite uncovering vandalism to Leonardo’s designs and the team’s inclination to draw on 20th-century techniques, they must press on and build the dream machines according to Leonardo’s exact specifications.
