LITERATURE FESTIVAL

This collection of ten literature-based cooperative learning activities allows students to connect favorite works of literature with recognizable situations as they develop critical reading skills and discern how key elements—plot, setting, character, theme—affect the outcome and impact of various literary works. Among the highly engaging activities are penning the opening act of a humorous play, creating want ads or a shopping mall promotional tour for a favorite novel’s character, designing a record album cover based on a book’s plot, and investigating characters’ disappearances and devising plausible adventures for them. Lessons are designed to be completed over a three-day period but may be adapted for individual classroom use. Grades 7–12. Illustrated. 8½" x 11". Interact.
