MEDIA AND BODY IMAGE
Connect with a representative to create a custom curriculum for your district.
Use 38 selected magazine ads, television commercials, and clips from TV shows to analyze and evaluate how these media encourage "lookism," negative attitudes based on appearance. Topics include beauty, aging, weight, male and female stereotypes, photo retouching, and plastic surgery. Two presentations, one simpler and one more complex, are accompanied by separate printable discussion guides and handouts that teach media literacy skills and apply those skills to the specific examples. Video clips are SDH. Grades 5–12. New Mexico Media Literacy. ©2008.psychissues
