MEDIATION SKILLS
Student Workshop
DVD
Realistic skits and reproducible handouts help students develop peer mediation skills by presenting strong models and reinforcing positive messages. The first part of the program portrays a mediation session following a scuffle between two students. Stopping points permit teachers to hand out information and activity sheets pertaining to mediation’s five phases: setting ground rules, getting the story, brainstorming and choosing solutions, and closure. The second part of the program depicts a successful mediation, while part three presents an unresolved conflict and challenges students to role-play its mediation. A teacher’s guide (on disc) offers 33 reproducible handouts, scripts of the scenarios, a bibliography, and a list of contact organizations. Grades 5–9. Color. 30 minutes. Sunburst. ©1996.
