ORDINARY PEOPLE

Directed by Robert Redford. This Academy Award-winning production stars Timothy Hutton as Conrad, a boy tormented by depression, fear, and guilt over his older brother’s accidental death. This disaster and Conrad’s subsequent suicide attempt expose the tensions beneath the veneer of an apparently ideal family life. Through psychiatric counseling Conrad comes to terms with the perfectionism of his mother, the remoteness of his father, and his own self-hatred, allowing him to return to a real, not ideal, life. Based on the novel by Judith Guest, the production also stars Mary Tyler Moore, Donald Sutherland, and Judd Hirsch. Note: strong language.
